Krauterberg is a small and very steep GG site and its soils are composed of weathered blue slate with stony and sandy loam. This is my favorite vineyard from this producer. I previously had the 2014 which was fantastic. This bottle disappointed. We drank it next to a 2012 Adeneuer Walporzheimer Garkammer Spätburgunder GG which was far superior. This wine had a sweetness to it almost to the point of being overripe. Reddish brown color with a woody nose. Notes of underbrush and ripe red fruit. This wine did not meet my expectations. I've had 10 Pinot wines from this estate (including the 2014 vintage if this wine) and this was the lowest scoring. 89 points.
