2008 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Terre de Vertus Premier Cru - France, Champagne, Côte des Blancs, Champagne (5/18/2014)

This is 100% Chardonnay without any dosage added which is in line with this estates' hands off winemaking approach. The grapes are sourced from the Les Barillers and Les Faucherets plots in Vertus (Southern end of the Cote des Blancs). From the great 2008 vintage. Disgorged June 2012. Golden straw color which was surprising for a wine this young. Very effervescent. Drank this right after a No dose Fluteau and they were quite different. This bottle was fuller and rounder. Notes of necco wafers, chalk, apples and biscuits. Nice purity on the finish. I can see this improving with time. 91+ points.

Love it. This was always my benchmark of purity and BdB austerity (chalkmark, to be sure) and definitely an ager. Never got to try anything older than 5 years but it sure grows versus a recent vintage (actually it always has a hard time at salons and champagne events). Also, it often merits decanting.
