  • 2005 Melville Pinot Noir Estate - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills (1/15/2007)
Great effort by Melville. Nice dark red fruits on the nose, some floral and cinnamon/spice notes and a hint of earth. Ripe strawberry palate, also has some raspberry flavor - long, smooth finish, once the burst of heat subsides (15.4% alcohol). No brainer at $25/bottle. 2004 Estate had lower alcohol if memory serves - but it was hot until recently as well, so time may serve this pinot well. (89 pts.)

Peer - grab a couple more if you can, I love Melville's Estate pinots...

You can def drink it young, just decant it for an hour or so to help flesh out the fruit and let some of the heat burn off.

Im not going to pop another though for a year, I think it will be 90+ in 2008.
