2004 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Alc. 14.5%, $66

Poppped and poured (Spiegelau Authenits Bordeaux stems). Nice clear, dark ruby color - not black. The nose needed coaxing, but included lurking blueberry, boysenberry and vanilla aromas. Quite tannic, but fully packed with pure mountain fruit and very nice structure. This isn't quite as punchy as some other Pride Cabs I've had, but a more tight, constructed style. Very young, but very promising. We re-tasted after about 3 hours in the corked bottle and it had closed up tight, with a tart, clipped finish. I'll re-taste again tonight. 92+ points.

We had two bottles of this at a dinner this week, and neither really opened up, even the second, which saw recently decent decanting for a restaurant drinker. The fruit was good, but seemed almost a bit 'fat', for lack of a better word, and the the tannins were big and very noticeable. I would like to see this in about 3-5 years, but, don't know if I would buy to hold on my own.
