2004 Michael-David Vineyards, 7 Deadly Zins – California, Lodi (1/25/2007)
Dark purple. No decant. A relatively fruity nose with hints of oak. Palate consisted of blackberries, cherries, raisins, and vanilla with some chocolate notes on the finish. No real tannins to speak of. The finish is relatively short. I prefer some peppery notes in my Zins and this wine did not offer that. I also prefer a Zin that is more balanced than this one, which has no acidity to speak of. A bit simple & one-dimensional. This is probably not a wine that I will seek out but at a retail price of $13 it is not bad and would probably be OK to have with a summer BBQ or hamburgers from the grill. Non-winos would probably appreciate.
