2004 Launois Pere et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Special Club - France, Champagne, Le Mesnil Sur Oger, Champagne Grand Cru (12/17/2014)

LostVerse opened a magnum at Bistro Margot. 100% Chardonnay from the Cote de Blancs. Low to moderate bead. Green apple aromas. Notes of citrus and minerals with a creamy texture. I would let this site for a few more years at least. Excellent sparkler but not up to the standards of the 2002 bottling of this wine. 93-94 points.

2004 Launois Pere et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Special Club Blanc de Blancs - France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru (3/8/2017)

Opened by Lostverse from magnum. 3rd time I have had this wine. At first the bottle was too warm and did not show as well as my previous tastings. However, we put it on ice and when I tried it later in the evening it showed much better. Notes of citrus and chalk. Very clean, fresh and crisp. No rush to drink this. 92-93 points.

We opened a magnum Sunday night. No formal notes, but this was delicious and complex. Had it with the initial appetizer but I was able to sample it at a few points over several hours. Along with citrus and chalk that VM mentions, I love the firm backbone and slightly yeasty notes. Excellent with plenty of time to go - too bad I don't have any more.
