Tasted at Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, Cornwall. Accompanied by fillets of lemon sole with a caper, tomato and anchovy sauce.

Without a doubt the most Burgundian chardonnay from Australia I've tasted. This was a pale straw, with a nose of minerale, lemon and honeydew melon, and very well judged French oak in the background. The palate was intense, echoing the aromas, with lively acidity and great length.

Tower estate is a winery based in the Hunter Valley and headed by the Australian wine legend Len Evans. The wines are only available at cellar door or in restaurants, and Rick Stein has a financial interest in the winery, thus having the full range of wines on his wine list. The range includes about 15 varietals from different parts of Australia, concentrating on what each region does best - Coonawarra cab sav, Barossa shiraz etc.

This particular wine was available for £15.50 in the delicatessen owned by Rick Stein - quite good value in comparison to White Burgundy of similar quality.
