What a wine!
I was shocked to read this was a Merlot dominated blend. (79% to 21% Cab Sauv)
I haven't always agreed with Parker's enthusiasm on Spanish wines (I'm not into fruit bombs either particularly), but this one he nailed (93pts) in my opinion.
Very heady aromas... dark and mouth staining. The tannins have started to soften, so don't be afraid to try it now, but it will last a while.
I was totally off trying to guess what it was made from... I assumed it was some kind of Spanish grape besides Tempranillo, so I wasn't considering Merlot mistakenly. I've never had Merlot quite like this, though.
While big, extracted and impressive... this wine lacks some of the characteristics of such wines that offend some people... It's smooth and easy to drink. I think this wine would be widely enjoyed... a crowd pleaser.
Very much a buy at $25.
