2003 Hartley-Ostini Hitching Post Pinot Noir St. Rita's Earth - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills (9/26/2006)

Anwar and Trigirl opened this for us last week. Very interesting wine. A lot of clove in this wine. Full bodied with more of an earthy character than fruity. It had an unusual but very nice personality. I liked this better than the 1985 Hitching Post PN Sanford & Benedict Vyd that I had earlier this year. 90 points.

im a huge fan of Hitching Post... if you liked this i think you will like other recent releases as well. the designates seem to follow your profile of a more earthy than fruity characteristic, while "blends" like the Highliner & Cork Dancer tend to have more pronounced fruit & spice notes - i like these more by themselves and with strong foods like BBQ for example, esp. the Cork Dancer at it's $20 price point... the designate Pinot's tend to match better with food that's a little more sutble... though, as you know, it's all preference
