2002 Zemplén Hegyhat Tokaji Szamorodni - Hungary, Hegyalja, Tokaji (11/8/2006)

This estate is owned by Istvan Szepsy and his children. It is named after the ridge that forms the Tokaji region. This single vineyard dessert wine is made from freshly piscked grapes (compared to Aszu grapes which are dried for 2 months). The botrytized grapes are pressed in bunches and destemmed. This wine had 104g/sugar and is the equivalent of a 3-4 Put wine. 12.6% alcohol. It is made for early consumption but Istvan thought it could last for 20 years.

I opened my only bottle of this with dessert at our home after dinner with some of the CWM. My wife an I bought this in Hungary when we visited Istvan Szepsy's winery and he gave us a tour. Link to my winery visit TN's. A very light yellow straw color. This wine was rather light on its feet compared to most tokaji. Not overly sweet. Some tangerine and honey notes. Good acidity. It matched well with the banana brown betty that R2-D2 made. This wine improved slightly since I first had it at the winery. 90 points.
