2002 Sean Thackrey Sangiovese Aquila Eaglepoint Ranch - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (1/7/2008)
Decanted 2+ hours before serving. Served alongside a 99 Monprivato - HUGE mistake. This might have been a decent wine on its own, but the Monprivato outclassed it in every respect. This is a bruiser. Big aromas and flavors. Gobs of fruit and tannins. But, really disjointed as almost all California Sangioveses can be. Nothing seemed to be integrated in this wine. I liked the bright red fruit, wood, and earthiness, but it was a bit hot and alcoholic. This needs much more time to settle down. A decent wine to serve with cheeseburgers & fries... (87 pts.)
