- 2001 Sandrone Barbera D'Alba - Barbera D'Alba, Alba, Piedmont, Italy (10/18/2004)
Mmm, delicous Barbera. This is a bit more tight than I recall. Very black in smell and flavor with appealing bitter notes. Blackberry, shoe leather and espresso dance on the nose, a bit more oak than I recall. On the palate this is suave and silky with surprising grip yet fine, fine tannins. With pizza this showed a bit tight tonight, but I have half a bottle to revisit tomorrow.
DAY 2: This opened uo and smoothed out rather nicely. The nose continues to show loads of blackberry, and the palate is now showing some elements of bitter, dark chocolate. Very smooth, great acid, a terrific Barbera. (89 pts.)
