Decided to warm up for the Australian Tasting coming up wednesday by having a Leeuwin Shiraz 2001 from their Art Series.
2001 Leeuwin Estate Shiraz Art Series - Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River (2/3/2007)
Dark red to black color, seems to be right on the verge of losing its youthful edge. Started out with smoked and dried meat, iodine, olives and earth tones on the nose. After some air it open with some cherry. The taste also had some cherry and raspberry, the aftertaste is again dominated by iodine and smoked meat, and hints of herbs. The tannins well integrated in the wine.
I decided not to grade this wine as the smoked meat and iodine really threw me off, and was almost impossible to ignore afterwards. The air helped a little, so I'm wondering if this one need even more time? Does anybody have experience with the Leeuwin Shiraz'?
