Had this wine on Aug 2nd in Columbus. John Caldwell was pouring. John is a very nice man that has a true passion to produce good wine. The '01 is a blend of 40% CS, 40% Syrah, and 20% Merlot. The 40% Syrah is what realy makes this wine standout. It offers a dimension to the wine that is frequently missing from other red blends. The pruny plum characteristics of the syrah used offer a thick juicy quite tannic well made wine. If you buy this wine be patient with it. I would wait 4-5 years to open my first one. IMHO it is a 92pt wine that just may garner higher points down the road when it become a little more elegant.
