2001 Arnaldo-Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco Collepiano - Italy, Umbria, Montefalco, Sagrantino di Montefalco (11/6/2006)

This was served blind with pot roast at our home over the weekend. Otis brought this wine. It finished tied for last in the voting. It had a candylike nose filled with sweet fruit.. long legs and a medium red color. Some slight metallic notes. Dry finish. 86 points.

Yes, this was disappointing. At the very least, I was hoping for some aromatic clove notes to match the seasoning in the pot roast. But nada...

I did not get any of the candied aromas or sweet fruit that VM noted. I just thought it was clamped tight with nothing appealing or interesting to offer at the moment. Might be okay down the road, but it wasn't showing any skin at this early age.

I have two more bottles and will hold them for at least another 5 years.

Cheers,

Otis
