There seemed to be many more Barolo at last years event. There were a couple more that I did not get to.
Here are my notes:
1999 Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala- I'm not sure if this wine was showing its best because it was not decanted. Pull the cork and pour me some wine. However, it sure was tasty. A concentrated effort with good color. Gripping tannins for a Barolo. Notes of crushed grape skins and berry. 93 points.
1999 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto- James Suckling liked the 1999 (WS96) better than the 1998 (WS93). I agree. I gave the 1998 a score of 92-94. The 1999 was more elegant and smoother. Fine tannins for this young wine. Although the fruit was mostly hidden, this wine had class and it was just waiting for the right time to emerge. Give it 5+ years. 94+ points.
