• 1999 Knipser Laumersheimer Kirschgarten Dornfelder Trocken - Germany, Pfalz (11/30/2007)
My first serious Dornfelder: Knipser is well known in Germany for making one of the best red wines on the market. So this 1999 Dornfelder from the Laumersheimer Kirschgarten is playing in another league than the off-dry massproduction DF widly available for around 2-4€. A very dark red in the glass. Lovely nose of fine dark raspberry/cherry chocolate with hints of fresh herbs and a touch of tobacco. Right at his peak there is a lush and smooth mouthfeel, a well structured medium to full body with dark chocolate covered black fruits (mostly cherries and dark raspberries) and a round and quite long finish. I'm very pleased to see that even Dornfelder makes his appearance in the 90+ points wine world. (90 pts.)
