Last night I opened the first bottle of the '99, my sixth vintage of this little gem.
Jancis Robinson said it better than I could,"This voluptuary from Colchagua is now a Chilean Classic that is utterly hedonistic and has never been ridiculously overpriced. The massive 1999 tastes so full and round it almost slithers over the palate...." - June 2002
I actually don't know what to write in this note. I feel like I've talked about this wine way too much on this forum. It's simply an unbelievable wine for the price. I don't know how many points to give it. In the beginning 20 minutes or so it resembled the Montes Alpha Apalta Cabernet Sauvignon, which WS gave 90 points. Then it began to gain weight. At one point near the end it tasted exactly like Justin Isosceles 1997, which was given 95 pts by wine spectator. About a half hour earlier, it tasted like the Don Melchor 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, which WS gave 94 points. Then at another middle phase it resembled a more classic California Cab, the BV Georges de Latour 1994, which WS just gave 92 points in a retro tasting. ( I've had at least two of all the wines mentioned within the last year or so, so the reference points are pretty good, I think).
I don't know, I guess this wine just hits the right button for me. I hope everyone has such a favorite.
