Purchased on sale for $60. This estate was started in 1889 and owns 475 hillside acres. 1998 was a cooler below average vintage in Napa. This normally contains 10-15% of Cab Franc and Merlot. Decanted 4 hours before dinner. Compared to 1998 Mouton and Haut Brion. Deep red color. Green pepper aromas. Sweet jammy red fruit. Notes of ripe cherries, licorice and cranberries. Smooth finish. 91-92 points

I remember 1998 as an El Niño year. A friend and I hiked up 9,000 ft. Wildrose Peak in Death Valley that April. The top should have been clear of snow, but wasn’t. We were wearing shorts and a few times broke through snowy trails almost up to our waists. That sensation on the ‘nads will wake you up.

Just a little thread drift.
