1998 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Cadettes - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (11/22/2006)

This was brought to the CWM cellar dinner at Courtrights by Jcubed. It was paired with a course of Braised Waygu Beef Short Ribs, Truffled Polenta, Cipollini and Braising Jus. This was my favorite match with this course. No brett. This wine was decanted for about 5 hours before we got to it. An old world rustic wine which is right up my alley. Notes of wild mushrooms, spices, raw meat and red berries. Sweet tannins which could still use a little time. Drinking well though. Supple finish. 94+ points.

1998 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Cadettes

Opened by Jcubed at an offline last weekend. 2nd time I have had this and both times courtesy of Jim. Last time was 17 years ago. The top wine from this estate. This showed very well at 25 years old. Deep purple color. Notes of spices, black fruit and garrigue. The tannins still had quite a grip to them. Well rounded with a smooth finish. Even better than the last bottle. 95 points.
