Opened by a friend. Decanted 4 hours before dinner. 2nd time I have had this wine. The first being upon release when the producer was pouring at a tasting. This wine was showing much better now than in 2004 as expected. In fact, of the previous vintages of this wine which I have had (1981,1986, 1988, 1989, 1993,and 1996), this 1998 was among the very best. This has really rounded into form. Drank next to a 1998 Haut Brion and 1998 Mayacamas for comparison. Light sediment. Crimson color. Solid tannins. Solid core of red fruit with ripe berries, beef blood and currant notes. Very lively and youthful. Long finish. No rush to drink. 97 points.
