Our anniversary dinner.
1970 Mouton-Rothschild. A number of recent tasters have expressed concerns that this wine is past its prime, and from our tasting I think by-and-large it is. However, we seem to have been some of the lucky ones, with a bottle with some fruit still showing through, along with the other nuances of a well-aged wine. Would like to have seen a longer finish. Not great, but nice.
1978 Caymus Special Selection Cabernet. At this point in time, and I expect going forward, this was the better wine. It was fuller bodied, with darker fruit and an extended finish. Drinking well now, but drink them if you’ve got them. Need to try our other remaining 1978’s.
