What a delicious wine. Dark ruby/purple in color. Notes of scorched earth, sappy kirsch, anise, violets, dark chocolate, creme de cassis, and charcoal. Plenty of guts for the long haul. Finishing very long with abundant sweet mouthpuckering tannin. This is intense, but maintains balance. 96 pts.

I think this wine and the Pavie Decesse are going to be interesting ones to follow. Both are terroirs in close proximity to one another, but I think this will fair better in the long run. The Decesse, while intriguing, pushes the limits of extraction, for me. I had one bottle that impressed me, and another that tasted over-ripe with roasted notes. The Macquin, on the other hand, is a ripe wine, but remains balanced.
