2000 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Volte -- recommended by the wine steward (Umberto's, in Whistler) as our "starter" wine, this fit the bill nicely. Quite floral nose; intense cranberry, plum, sage flavors, light to medium weight; very high acidity makes it a wine that's far more friendly with food than without, but that suited our puposes; fine tannins emerge on the medium-length finish. Nice wine, but not terribly distinctive other than jumpin' acidity. Probably best now while the fruit's so fresh. App. 86-7 pts.

Cheers.

Has anyone had the '99 version of this wine lately? Thanks.

Life without wine?...... Yeah Right.

I believe we have 2 lives; the life we learn with and the life we live with after that.
IW,

As Seaquam noted, this wine is probably best drunk at a young age. I purchased a half dozen bottles six months ago for immediate consumption and found it to be great value as a regular quaffer with food. Can probably be purchased in the US for 10.00 to 12.00.

Cheers,

IW,

Just had a bottle last week and it is drinking very well. I don't know if I fully agree that this is a wine to drink young. The 99 is still showing considerable tannin and I think it can use 2-4 more years to fully express itself.
