The whole WS forum is dead, all the posts are dull comments about what people bought and a few of the WS mafia kissing each others asses

There is zero lively debate, the ruling people have totally killed it with their bullshit atitudes.

If I was in charge I would scrap the whole thing and restart it with zero post counts and a moderator who promoted lively debate without the bullshit

I've been around for a while now and have witnessed that the liveliness of postings, conversation, debate, etc certainly tends to ebb and flow. 'Value' is solely based upon the input, integrity and passion of those who support it.

Some of the most lively, entertaining and most-oft remembered threads have been those engaging hot debate. Some of those did, admittedly, degraded to mud-slinging and people moved on as a result of hurt feelings, insults and disrespect. In fact, these boards have softened greatly over the past few years, IMO, and become quite a bit more gentile. It is during these times, I notice, a sense of lethargy sets in and similar 'complaints' arise such as yours, welshstar. Input is sparked by other's input, inquiry and opinion.

So, is it a positive or negative? Not certain. But these boards have certainly experienced a continuous transition of people, personalities, gendor and style. Clearly, it is up to each one of us, individually, to provide the input that breathes fresh life into this board where we all, mutually, share a passion and is the common thread to ties us together. Great friendships have resulted from meeting people here. Some of the most generous people around are found on these boards. There are also the trolls, the suckers of life, those that feel entitled to be continuously entertained by others, those that feel endowed with grand knowledge and authority no matter how imperfect it may be. In fact, nothing else than one might find in any disfunctional family structure.

Summation: If you feel these boards need a shot in the arm then input something of value. Participate and give something of meaning that everyone can benefit from. Be a giver not a taker.

I'm curious to know what contributions the original poster thinks he has made to make this forum any better. If he dislikes it so much, why keep coming back? Typical whiner who doesn't like that others disagree with his inflammatory statements about some members, and cries when he gets attacked in return. Useless POS.

I would argue the structure of the forum hasn't kept up with technology, and thus many people choose not to use this forum much. I mean really, we can't embed images?! People aren't going to stick around long on a forum that looks like it is from 2003. I'm on a lot of other forums for my automotive hobby and they offer a much slicker product. WS needs to invest and upgrade this platform to bring it 2014 standards. Given how big of a publication they are it is shameful that their web platform is so antiquated.

Though to be honest, outside of the argument of the board moving away from YHVH (which I have no view on, and have never really thought about Razz ), I agree with everything you said.

And as far as the OP's premise, and the comments about technology....

For me, the most important things I've gotten from these boards over the last decade are the friendships made. Period. Yeah, I've learned a lot about wine and some other things here, and hope to continue this. I'd trade all that knowledge in a heartbeat for just one of the great friends I've discovered here. welchstar, a couple of serious questions for you: In your almost 5 years as a participant here, how many offlines have you attended? How many lasting relationships have resulted from your participation here?

As far as the antiquated technology here, I wouldn't mind some upgrades. I don't come here for a slick look or fancy features.

Welshstar . . . I generally agree with what KSC said.

SPOs comment about lethargy also strikes a cord.

As a source of active debate and discussion, lately I would agree that there has been little of that. As a site that can generate great friendships among people from across the countries who would otherwise never have met each other, I have really enjoyed my time on this site and meeting the various personalities - both virtually and in-person

BTW . . . when the heck are you going to get yourself out to a Chicago offline!?

i personally don't understand the stigma against mudslinging, name calling so on. It's quite annoying to have the political correctness machine constantly monitoring what one could say as part of this society. What's next? they're going to start video taping me and process me for thoughtcrimes?

it's an internet forum. take it with thicker skin is my feeling =)

It's the processing that scares me!

To your point though, you do know that on WB, people have cited this forum as an example of what happens when nobody calls for civility! Of course, that particular thread is now locked down!

BW - funny how things are slow but this very thread goes to multi pages in under 12 hrs.

would really not like seeing image embedding or any other technology upgrades (have you seen what some people link, I wouldn't want that showing up on my screen without being prepared). people can continue link to images if they want or direct people to other content as needed. To me it just slows down site loading and creates more security risks. Simple plain text is my preference.

I agree with part of the slowness is the repetition of topics. Many times one of the first responses is a link to the same or similar thread. Still enjoy reading and rehashing topics as opinions and thoughts can change over the years.
