The most "Velvety" wine

Velvet

Do you like an iron fist in that velvet glove?

The Belle Glos Pinot Noir, maybe? Had one after a referral from a blog, a bit pricey but nice around the holidays.

Leasingham Bin 56 Cabernet/Malbec, 2001. Super silky-hits you like a cold glass of milk after a piece of chocolate cake. This wine is both the cake and the milk. And about $20-25.

2004 Schild Estate Shiraz, if you can find it

2005 Thorne-Clark Shiraz Shotfire is velvety, and a good QPR

A good buy for about $23, Zenato Ripassa.

Anything from Spring Valley. Their signature characterist is mouth feel. My fav is the Uriah, but all there varietals have that velvety mouth feel!

Colle Dei Venti Barbaresco.

I agree with WA-wine-lover for the Spring Valley Vineyard Uriah.

I would also add the reds from Walla Walla Vintners. Their Cab, Syrah and Merlot are all silky, but the Vineyard Select Cab (when they make it) is all about silky/velvety tannins and mouthfeel.

I think some of you are nuts!! We need a consensus on the definition of "velvety" first.

I agree, Lentini. Interestingly, the most "velvety" soft and wonderfully textured wine I've had in my mouth in the past many months was the 1986 Leoville Las Cases you brought to the 2nd Annual Birthday Bash. Absolutely soft as silk. Or velvet. Or cashmere or something, but nice!

"Velvety" has always been my descriptor for a good Cabernet Franc.

I've had the Ramey and the Pride Cab Franc recently. Those are great examples of what I'm talking about and looking for.

Just had a 1997 stags leap SLV that was very velvety which I would describe as soft rich and fruity with well entragrated tannins that don't overpower the fruit or the balanced acidity of the wine. Silky on my tongue too.

2001 Kistler Cuvee Elizabeth pinot noir, liquid velvet.
