He's not been around as long as most of the regulars but he has been enthusiastic about getting the bottles recently. Now he gets the chance to get one from his own side of town. Passing the baton back across the Atlantic but this time the Northern big bit, Ladies and Gentlemen I give you...

Steve8

I'm sure you will make it a good one Steve.

P.S. For those that ask every month:

TAA - Tasting Across America
TATW - Tasting Around The World

The TAA/TATW weekend is coming. Buy this wine Tedeschi Amarone della Valpolicella or you're a wimp.

Well thank you KillerB. As a "newbie" I find this game interesting for the opportunity to compare notes with others. As for enthusiastic, any excuse to drink wine.

Looking back on past TAA/TATW choices I notice that a Spanish wine has never been chosen. Surprising since there seem to be many here that like them. I would have chosen the '01 Condado de Haza except that MWagner posted a note for it last week. So instead

2001 Castell del Remei Gotim Bru Costers del Segre

Inexpensive and usually a great wine for the money, the 2001 should be good as that vintage appears to be an excellent one for Spain. WS never seems to review this wine for whatever reason, but I think/hope it is widely available. It was just recently released here and I don't think our booze monopoly is too far behind on this one.

Let's set the date for the weekend of May 22/23, which gives you two and a half weeks to find some.
I won't be able to participate because I'm abroad, but congrats on the selection, steve8.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to pick the June TAA host prior to the May TAA weekend so people have more time to acquire the wine, especially if it needs to be ordered online and shipped.

I have no problem with that if the rules allow it. Wink I have a few possibilities in mind.
Since I missed the priveledge of sharing with KillerB in the Tedeschi (illness in the family prvented travel), I am looking forward to this one.

... at least Steve8 didn't pick a Burgundy. He is trying to start me down that path, too!

Regards,

DBW
For Ontarians, I don't believe that the 2001 vintage of this wine has been released here. The 2000 was released back in May 2003 at C$16.95, but it appears to be entirely sold out. If anyone has a bottle of it still kicking around, however, then why not bring it to our off-line this weekend?
Thanks for bumping this Stevie. It doesn't sound very encouraging as to how many forumites have found this wine. Hopefully there are others that just haven't posted it.

What about the Spanish gang?? It must be available there? How about in California?

Guess it's more challenging than I thought to pick a wine that can be found everywhere Frown

Cluri: Interesting indeed. By smiley face, are you pulling my leg? I've lived here for 32 years and while we have relatively large Italian, Latino, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Sudanese and Bosnian populations for the size of our city, I have never heard reference to a Basque population in Des Moines.
