Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Firefighters are starting to make some headway against the fires in our area as winds slow down, however in others - especially the Bastrop area - things are still very bad. I saw a statistic this morning that showed the number of acres burned in Texas so far is equivalent to an area the size of the state of Connecticut.
In our specific neighborhood, my wife and I are blessed to say the only damage we have is to our back doors where a friend broke in to get our dogs out during the evacuation. We had been out wine tasting in the Hill Country when we got word of the fire and by the time we raced back the area was already closed by the authorities. Some of our neighbors were not so lucky as 45-50 homes were damaged or destroyed, however there were no fatalities here. We just heard of the first fatalities in Bastrop last night and so far over 500 homes in that area are gone. I told my wife some of the footage of the scenes down there remind me of the fires in Kuwait back in Desert Storm - horrifying...
