When we taste wine, my wife and I sometimes differ rather strongly on a wine. We are often pretty close. So when I post a tasting note, should I just post my note, or do some sort of combination, or post two notes, one for her, one for me? What do you think?

The particular wine in question tonight is the Qupe Syrah 2005. She described a mossy note on the nose which I agreed with and then went on to say that it smells like a damp basement which I didn't get. And so her ultimate assessment was thumbs down whereas mine was thumbs up. FWIW, I think she has a *much* better nose than I do.

Thoughts?

I think in the long run you will achieve more by posting notes individually. This will give others two perspectives with which to possibly align their palates with yours instead of one. This is a great way I can stumble across many wines I never would've just bought on my own.
Each person has their own perceptions at each point in time so I would think you would want to each do your own notes. It will show your similarities as well as your differences which may come in handy when planning that special evening as you could then choose a wine that you would BOTH enjoy.

Really trying not to ask you what else your wife is *much* better at so I will refrain. Big Grin
I'm probably wrong about this, but it seems that all that needs to be said on this issue has been said.

Oh, and that said, women are generally better tasters, so you should at least be paying attention to what she says! It's probably good for the marriage, too!

Now that I will agree with, the "good for the marriage" part Wink

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll take WIML's approach. Is PURPLE Mrs. WIML?

WEc - that's an interesting observation. Is damp basement a tell for TCA?

Her nose is definitely better than mine and I do pay attention.

Yes. PURPLE is Mrs. WIML.
