Say Something Completely Random And Off Topic

President Trump, who must have missed a lot of classes at Wharton’s School of Business, is now heating up and expanding the trade war with China and with various allies.
He thinks a trade war is a good thing.
Right now, the Chinese stock market is down more than the US stock market, which might give someone the idea that we are “winning” the trade war.  I am reminded of what Ho Chi Minh said of the Vietnam War.....”we will take more casualties, but you will tire of the war first.”
Ho was right on both scores.
And, there were no term limits for Ho Chi Minh.

He compared it only because someone had to compare it to Nazi Germany first.  Which is a ridiculous comparison.

When you have to explain why you're not like a Nazi, you're on pretty shaky moral ground.

So what would you compare it to?  You know... separating families to inflict the maximum psychic damage in order to achieve a policy goal?  Causing likely long term psychological damage to toddlers?  Mother Teresa?  Mahatma Gandhi?  I'm interested in your thoughts.

It’s certainly a difficult situation.  But to compare it to being in a cage / concentration camp waiting to be killed is not quite on the same level and everyone knows it. These illegal aliens are treated extremely well and a high cost to the government and really to all of us.

Illegal immigration ion is a huge problem.  Trump ran on it and is trying to rectify it.  Past administrations have done virtually nothing to remedy it.  Just like N Korea.

They are are leaving a terrible situation ( one might say a shit hole country) for fear of their lives.  They have arrived in Mexico...and are certainly safer correct?  Maybe stay there!

Democrats don’t care about these kids...just another way to get at the President. No outrage over Peter Fonda?

treated extremely well, you mean like getting ripped from their parents at a young age?  Oh wait, "they've got TV".

Explain to me why you think illegal immigration is a huge problem?  I'd love to hear your take on how illegal immigration affects you?

btw Mexico is the 20th most dangerous country in the world.

A difficult situation? It's a horror show.  And no one has discussed killing anyone.  The comparisons to the Nazis were in reference to family separation.  Yeah.  Taking children from their parents arms and putting them into camps.  Tell me how you would feel if this happened to you.  Oh... that's right, you don't have kids.  Never mind.

Illegal immigration ion is a huge problem.  Trump ran on it and is trying to rectify it.  Past administrations have done virtually nothing to remedy it.  Just like N Korea.

i'll echo g-man's question on the "hugeness" of the immigration problem.  Certainly it's a problem.  The orange menace's response in this case is indefensible.  Period.  And that's why he's quickly backtracking on the family separation component.  And trump has done virtually nothing to remedy the situation in NK.  In fact, it's likely he's exacerbated the situation by giving Kim international standing.

...one might say a shit hole country

Nice.  True colors showing nicely.  Any more trumpisms you'd like to add to the discussion?

They have arrived in Mexico...and are certainly safer correct?  Maybe stay there!

A common bullshit Republican response.  They weren't traveling to Mexico,  They were coming to the country with the big statue, with this engraved on it:

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

Democrats don’t care about these kids...just another way to get at the President.

Disingenuous horseshit.   And all the Republicans who have denounced this horror?  They don't care either, right?   And Melania's own immigration lawyer who's on record denouncing this policy?  Yeah, everyone is just using this trumpian abomination to get at trump.  Because... everything is about trump.

No outrage over Peter Fonda?

Ah... it wouldn't be a true trumpian response without a little whataboutism, would it?  Look up logical fallacy one day and quit using them in your debates.  That said, Fonda is a D-string hack who (absolutely inappropriately and vilely) tweeted about a privileged son of an alleged billionaire.  To equate the damage done by this buffoon's TWEET to the reality of the horrors suffered by these separated immigrant families is absurd and a huge false equivalence.

We all know ( except one) that Trump had a fake Time magazine cover produced that he framed and put in his properties. The Time cover was a fake just like the man himself and he was forced to remove them. Well, Time now has a cover I hope Trump will frame and install in all of his properties.

GMan and PH...we could go back and forth all day.  Appears we have different views.  Illegal immigration is a huge problem. Just watch both Clintons, Obama and Schumer all saying it.

I have ZERO problem with legal immigration.  Huge problem with ILLEGAL immigration and if we cannot agree on that...then there is no point in continuing to discuss.

How much do you think it costs the US daily to care for the children arriving illegally (on ther own, with a parent or being smuggled in (Medical / Food / Sports / Housing...etc)?

Agree with the sentiment, but De Niro blew a chance to make a more thoughtful statement in a rare opportunity for him to speak to a national audience  Clips of his diatribe will be used against right-thinking policies come November.  Trust me on this.  Shame.

The cost?  A small percentage of what the 1% picked up in the tax cut sham.

Where would you rather see the money go?  People who want to come here and make a life, pay their fair share of taxes and send their children to good schools, or people who already have it made.. whose kids go to private schools and Ivy League colleges and never have to work another day in their lives?  I know what my answer is.

As it happens, every reputable study shows that the costs and benefits of immigration, be it refugees or others, are at worst, even Canada.  The vast majority of them show a huge economic benefit over time though more so for legal than illegal migrants or refugees.  In the US, I'm guessing the overall benefit may be less due to larger numbers of illegals and refugee claimants, who here generate a lower level of benefits, but who still generate economic and other benefits that far outweigh the costs.

Regular readers may recall that I have some expertise in matters of immigration.....

And while I'm chiming in, why does Trump focus so much on MS-13?  It's only one of several Latin American drug gangs operating in the US.  Not sure it's so much worse than others, the Zetas, for example.  But for that matter, why the focus on drug gangs when there are so many other criminal gangs out there being a danger?  It's like his focus on Muslim terrorism when I think that more Americans have been killed by domestic terrorists.  Oh, wait, I think I know the answer to that one......

Because it makes a good soundbite.  All his acolytes know what MS-13 is.  If you asked trump what a Zeta is, he'd probably answer that it was a snack food.

For Christ sake...they are arriving illegally.  Are you not capable of drawing a distinction?   If they arrive legally, their children would not be separated from them.  Not that hard.

And by the way, the wording on the statue of Liberty  is not the Law of the land.

Why denigrate people who put their kids in private and Ivy League schools?  And (for the most part) work very hard for what they have achieved.

In typical fashion for a trumpublican, you have still failed to answer a yes/no question after multiple opportunities.

Do you approve of taking infants from their parents to support your agenda?

Assuming the children are not in danger and their parents are not a threat to either the children or anyone else?  Do you think this is in keeping with our values as a country?

Yes or no?  Answer the question.   Please respond with one word.
