At this point I've decided I can't watch the news. I keep getting a dreadful feeling. However I had that same feeling Nov. 3 around 8pm and I was wrong. Someone shared with me Mike Pompeo's comment. It's been clear since Saturday they are going to try (and I give them at least 50% odds of success) to steal the election and appointment Trump emperor for life. You can bet, if he survives, he's not leaving in 2024 or Ivanka will simply be named successor.

If I were the purchaser of this pigeon, I'd keep it far away from French restaurants.  What makes the bird Belgian anyway? Is that a subspecies of pigeon, like Chilean Sea Bass is to Sea Bass in general, or French Fries are to fries?  Or is it just an accident of birth?

From the LA Times: "G.M. Drops Its Support for Trump Climate Rollbacks and aligns With Biden--General Motors said it would no longer back President Trump’s lawsuit seeking to strip California of the power to set fuel economy standards.

"General Motors abandoned President Trump’s battle to nullify California’s fuel economy rules meant to curb global warming, the strongest sign yet that corporate America is moving on from Mr. Trump and adapting to an incoming Democratic administration."

Biden's not even in office yet, and in my view he may never be due to a possible coup, but things are already getting better.

1) The hug was unmasked. That was terrible. At 87 yrs old, she's in the high risk department. 2) She could have just hugged him in a private room, if she really felt the need. 3) If a male Senator came up to a female committee chair and hugged her, there would be a complaint of harassment.

Well, also she hugged the man who just picked her (and the public's) pocket, metaphorically speaking.

Lincoln spoke of the proposition that "all men are created equal." Forgetting for the moment about the unigender term of "men", President Trump doesn't seem to accept that proposition at all.

Lincoln spoke of honoring the soldiers who fought for the US cause and who died at Gettysburg.  Trump would not go to the US military cemetery in France and has reportedly referred to soldiers as "suckers and losers."

Trump is the antithesis of Lincoln in these regards.

Lincoln's speech was under 300 words long and took under 2 minutes to deliver.  Doubtless, Trump will drone on and on.

And Clinton pardoned a whole bunch of miscreants.  The most notorious of whom was Marc Rich, who was in the process of being prosecuted by Rudy Giuliani.  Marc Rich's wife donated a bunch of money to the Clinton library and to the Clinton and other Democratic campaigns. (Campaign contributions are a legalized form of bribery).  The pardon of Marc Rich was extremely sleazy and in keeping with Bill Clinton's persona.

I was in Rogers Park. I had dug out my parking space and created an opened sided igloo. I had, as required by Chicago snow code, patio furniture to put in my space when I left it. I believe that's when I ruined the transmission on my Dodge Duster trying to rock back and forth to get out of my space by having to hump over the tire track snow mounds that were formed in the street. Golden memories.

Congratulations to the United States of America. COVID-19 is the leading cause of death in America over the last week! Just yesterday alone we had more Covid deaths than Japan has had in their totality. Impressive.

All this and our Thanksgiving spike is still 10-14 days away, just in time for Christmas. Americas current death rate projections will surpass heart disease and cancer combined on a daily average. Impressive, again.

Both Ted Cruz and the orange pile of dung in the Oval Office said time and time again that the “ media” wouldn’t be saying the Covid word after November 3rd. What they must have meant is they wouldn’t be saying the word again. The POS named Trump has not address the nation since he lost the election in a landslide  (Trump’s own words) about the worse health crisis in over 100 years. Not a single fucking news conference, not an all hands on deck news conference with medical experts, not showing his face once to answer questions about how America plans to hopefully give the needed 656 million needed injections over the next 9 months- year. Not a single ounce of empathy offered to the nation. Not one.

For Napa and other Trump supporters, you must truly be proud of your leader that has failed the USA in her greatest health crisis, all while spreading lies and saying ( his words) the justice department is in on his loss, the FBI ( his words) is in on his loss, the head of cyber security that was voted in by the senate unanimously is in on his loss,  ( his words) the Republican governor of Georgia is in on his loss and Trump wishes he would have never supported him ( his words) and the same in Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, blah blah blah.

Let them eat cake .

Agree with this entirely and we were there also for much of his time as Mayor albeit pre-9-11.

He did a lot to clean up the City but much of it was also based upon extremely racist policing and policies.  His popularity was in the toilet before 9-11 - I recall the NY marathon one year, probably 1999 - I think it was right before we moved - where he was relentlessly booed by the crowd - including Stef - as they went up 1st Avenue

Oh, no question. I was in the city often during his tenure and he was highly unpopular when he left office and was front page tabloid news often with his marriage.

All that said, as a monthly visitor to Manhattan during much of his tenure, I agree completely he helped clean up areas, or happened when he was mayor. Time Square/ 42nd Ave. were cesspools. I also agree we are now seeing he is not a man of character whatsoever. He is a whore wearing a suit badly.

I offer him the same empathy he and the POS writing him checks offer to other COVID victims. The White House is clearly a super spreader cesspool of whores and fools.

The Republican government of Georgia's response - in court - to Trump's legal team's request that members of the electoral college put in place by the votes of Georgia voters be ignored and a team of pro-Trump electoral college electors be put in their place:

""Their claims would be extraordinary if true, but they are not. Much like the mythological “kraken” monster after which Plaintiffs have named this lawsuit, their claims of election fraud and malfeasance belong more to the kraken’s realm of mythos than they do to reality.""

They appended a footnote, which reads: “A ‘kraken’ is a mythical sea monster appearing in Scandinavian folklore, being ‘closely linked to sailors’ ability to tell tall tales.’”

The judge hearing the case said: “They want this court to substitute its judgment for that of two and a half million Georgia voters who voted for Joe Biden,” Batten said, "and this I am unwilling to do.”

The last person who still thinks Trump has any integrity or credibility left, please turn out the lights as you leave the building....

acutally I recall it was bloomberg that really changed the time sq area to the extreme tourist desintation it is today.  Guilliani did massively step up the police patrols around time sq, which lead to an anchor tenant like Olive Garden to buy out a massive spot where a few dirty strip clubs used to be.  He gave alot of RE developers some sweet heart deals where they paid pretty much 0 taxes to the city.  A bold deal for sure, and i'll grant him a vision for that combined with the police presence really upped the area.

With that investment came alot of folks that finally had a big flashy neon and "affordable" full dining resto to visit when watching a broadway show.  Heck, I was at the Olive garden its first year of opening in time sq, I got a lap dance from the wait staff because it was my birthday =)

But one avenue over by port authority, it's still kinda dirty and grungy even as some fancy new chains have stepped up and moved in.

This post election litigation is an utter waste of taxpayer resources.  If I lived in a state where the atty general was spending time and money on a frivolous case to undermine democracy, I'd consider filing a motion to intervene or a separate lawsuit to enjoin the AG from wasting my tax money.

What I find amazing about the cases is that, to date, while the judges have dismissed the cases rapidly and without hesitation, and been critical of those who have brought the cases, not one judge has sanctioned those who bring these frivolous cases or their attorneys under the powers of Federal Rule 11 or the state rules that are similar.

I'm just at a loss.

If you read the story you will see that a committee of the San Francisco school board has recommended that a number of school names be reconsidered, but no decision has been made.

The very first line of the story says: "San Francisco may remove Abraham Lincoln’s name from a high school.”

So your comment that they WILL do it is incorrect.

Always a good idea to read the stuff you share before sharing it.  And now you no longer need to be at a loss!

I read the damn article. I never used the word WILL in all caps or otherwise. Perhaps you could read too. And even though they are saying it’s because he never proved Black Lives Matters it seems to be more his administration’s treatment of indigenous people rather than blacks so it’s a weird recommendation to say the least.

At any rate though do you honestly think that even making the recommendation makes any sense?  Any at all? Seriously I’m asking. I remain at a loss as to how anyone could think that makes sense. Even you or TOM.

Strawman, neither of us said it did. But here's something you said that says a lot about you, "Biden is a piece of garbage. He’s just slightly less ripe than Trump. Who frankly cleaned Biden’s clock in the debate."

It's getting interesting down here in Palm Beach about whether soon-to-be former President Trump can move into Mar-a-Lago.  Lots of residents are pointing out that the use agreement for Mar-a-Lago restricts the property to a social club and states that no one is allowed to reside in the club for more than 21 days a year.  So if Donald and Melania come down in January and intend to live there for more than 21 days, we may have another fun legal show on the Island.

Record cases, record hospitalizations and record deaths and the orange pile of dung says nothing nor does he give a damn. Dreadful first time unemployment filings this past week and Dump says nothing nor does he push for any stimulus relief as he doesn’t give a damn. This POS is truly a sick f£€k. He is as absent as Napa.

As for the Russian hack into the pentagon, it is news to him. Putin will soon not have his useful idiot to rely on.

Meanwhile, the renovations continue for his new home next month in Florida and the town has already put him on notice he cannot live there more than 21 days in a year. I also saw the city attorney this morning saying the helipad would be removed on January 20th. 😎

just curious how you distinguish between really dislike and the word hateful.

But I feel you're taking "political" talking points way too much to heart instead of looking at the real issues at hand, and that's alot of these public unions are getting paid way too much money to do things like form a board on renaming schools instead of, you know, teaching our kids.  Or how other unions spend way too much time talking about protecting the public, instead of actually protecting the public.

Anyhow, "you do you" but it doesn't make the wine in the glass taste sweeter by hating on things.

Hate is stronger than really dislike. I usually reserve that for people I’ve actually met.  I have a hard time saying I hate someone that I don’t know (Trudeau family is an exception).  Slight distinction perhaps but I think it exists.

And, for the record, I also called (well implied really as I didn’t state it explicitly) Trump a more ripe piece of garbage than Biden. It’s something I think but I wonder whether that also is hateful? Or is it not to those making the accusation because they agree with that assessment of DJT?  Curious.

Agree with your comment re unions and use of public funds.  The fact that anyone is investing resources in nonsense such as things of this nature is sad at best.  And I’ll continue doing me thank you. No one’s better at it than I.

Here is something that really annoys me.

It seems a lot of sane, decent, small "l" liberal people have a really tough time criticizing -- or accepting criticism -- of goings on the the cultural far left; as if to do so would somehow undermine the premise (fact) that Trump is beyond contempt and that the national Republican Party has turned autocratic, anti-fact, anti-American, racist, nativist, anti-science, pro-death, and anti small "d" democratic.  All of which is demonstrably true.

The rejection of the criticism of the cultural far left by sane people rarely manifests itself as embracing the lunacy, but instead as belittling those who bring it up, denying it exists, or pointing out how astronomically worse the other side is.  (The last point of which, again, is obviously true.)

If I had to bet, I'd say SF is going to rename the school.  But, who knows, and it is incidental to my concern here.  Earlier this year the friggin Smithsonian came out with a list of things that are part of "white culture" that sustain "white supremacy" including: "rational linear thinking", "cause and effect relationships", "work before play", "planning for the future", "progress is best", and the list goes on.  The list was removed less than 48 hours later after public outcry over objectively good things being ascribed exclusively to white culture.  The initial CDC vaccination suggested guidelines had 87 million non healthcare essential workers (not just frontline essential workers) plus younger people with comorbidities suggested to get vaccinated before the elderly and assumed it would lead to 0.5% to 6.5% increased overall death rate but believed this was justified because more elderly are white so it would even the playing field.  (Yes, this really happened.)  Again, after two days of public outcry, the suggestions were revised to be sane.  The point of all of this is that cultural far-left groupthink and ideological capture is a real phenomenon.  And one I am increasingly concerned with.  The bajillion times worse that Trumpists are is true, but not everything can be about that and one way to get people to turn away from sanity is to tell them that the real things they are observing don't count or are just figments of their own imagination.

It can all be true.  Just because the biggest medical problem -- by an extraordinary, stupendous amount -- facing us today is COVID-19, that doesn't mean we don't need to be
