Yes... there are MANY wonderful people in all these states. My recent travels through the southeast has reinforced this in my mind without a doubt.
Most of these states also have awful, restrictive state governments. Saying that there are good people in the US, and ignoring all the horrid things that many others do and believe, is TYPICAL Faux News simplification and misdirection. It's not a zero sum argument.

It was a sweeping generalization. In more of a reference to Kamala who agreed to that. Some of the others did not. But I believe for the most part, all raised their hand that it should be a civil offense. You are not a refugee for wanting to move to a better country. And you are to seek safe refuge in the first country you land in...not pass through to the country of your choice.

Great example of the safe country concept. This, from the UNHCR website, explains the concept further:

Not at all, Mexico is wonderful. But it is not safe for refugees attempting to make a life there, as the rule of law doesn't apply and cops are worse than criminals in many places. And current US immigration policy is a joke in some respects but probably not the ones you are referring to. Signatories to the UN Refugee Convention have certain obligations, which are the basis of most of the criticisms I see of US immigration policy, from the right at least. Criticisms from the left tend to be that the US is not meeting those obligations. And of course refugee policy is just one of many areas of immigration policy. It's complicated!

We had a friend get married in Maryland on July 3, 2011 and took advantage of being in the region to be in D.C. on Independence Day. Despite the swamp weather we had a great time.
Weather report is that a severe thunderstorm will start just before his scheduled speech. If that happens, wanna bet he finds a way to blame the Democrats? Or Obama? Or Hillary? Or Mueller? Or...….

Tom... I think you're being just a little bit disingenuous here. Sure it wasn't a military parade. That said, there would have been one if trump had been able to pull it off. He's been talking about doing one for years. I also like flyovers, and am a big sucker for military aviation. I go to airshows whenever I can. If you can name me ONE sporting event that had a B-2 bomber, F-22 Raptor, F-35C, a VC-25 and the Blue Angels all together, I'll allow you the analogy. Otherwise, it doesn't pass the sniff test. Sorry.
Interestingly, the large assembly of air power came just days after a F-18 Super Hornet appearance at a Michigan airshow was cancelled due to budgetary shortfalls in Naval aviation. The fact that several million dollars was taken from Park Service funds slated to improve our parks is an additional example of the tone deaf egotism displayed by trump and his administration.

For all the gnashing of teeth about what the Fourth of July celebration was going to be like, from a military parade to a political event, it was actually a pretty good event. Yes it had a big flyover, but the whole nation gets to enjoy seeing it and it is a show of support for the military. Trump's speech was not political and was fitting for the celebration. The turnout was pretty good, despite the weather.
I'm not getting into Trump's mind of woulda coulda, just commenting on what actually happened and it was pretty good.
Saw the fireworks from New York and they were spectacular. Really cool how it looked like a river of fireworks, pouring over the bridge a few times during the event.

Three aircraft here, five there, but most of the time, the sky was clear. Oh yeah, and one B-2 bomber! The “Blue Angels” appearance looked a bit better but was terribly timed.

Almost all chiefs of the branches sent their 2nd in commands to the event. They said that they already had planned to be at other events, but this is crap. When the president calls, you go there; unless, of course, you really, really don’t want to be there.
Costs.
The US has the biggest military in the world, but I’ve seen better displays of military force from Germany (the most anti-militaristic country in the world) and even Croatia. They said the whole event had cost 92 million USD, I don’t know for what.
I’m absolutely convinced that the US can do a much better show, with half of the price-tag. Let some Navy SEALs rappel from a helicopter, better from 25 helicopters. Show some infantry (without the heavy equipment), the crowds adore this kind of stuff.
It looks like nobody in Trump’s circle had asked the military for their input and they weren’t willing to give it without a formal request.
All military forces in the world are leaning conservative and the US military is no exception. Most soldiers might be pro-Trump, but there’s a line that no one likes to cross: politicizing the military is a big no-no.

When facts are stated, he isn’t capable of addressing them nor is he interested in facts to begin with. Logic, facts, critical thinking and the nuance of debate are clearly beyond his mental gymnastic ability.
One of the early questions posed to the empty suit was, “ what does MAGA mean?” Is that the time women couldn’t vote? Is that a time when only white men were in power? Is that a time when the thinking was a catholic couldn’t be president? Was it a time when a woman could be at the very top of her law class yet not be offered a position at a world class law firm? Perhaps it was when people of color couldn’t eat, drink or even stay where white people did such. Was it a time when Jewish people couldn’t belong to the same country clubs? Was it a time when anyone with a different sexual preference could be put in jail, refused employment, employment benefits and mistreated without consequence? Perhaps it means it was a time that it was okay for your ancestors to immigrate to the United States because they looked like the people in power. Just exactly which decades does the term refer to was a question that the empty suit never answered.

I question Twitters policy. They have removed for racist comments etc. With the Buffoons comments today, would these qualify to have his account purged? Hope so.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has written specific rules that protect people, mostly immigrants, against employment discrimination on the basis of their national origin. The agency is responsible for enforcing laws that prohibit discrimination and harassment based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age and disability.
“Ethnic slurs and other verbal or physical conduct because of nationality are illegal if they are severe or pervasive and create an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment, interfere with work performance, or negatively affect job opportunities,” the commission said on its website to describe harassment based on national origin.
“Examples of potentially unlawful conduct include comments like, ‘Go back to where you came from,’ whether made by supervisors or co-workers,” it continued.
On Monday, the EEOC posted its own tweet detailing how to file a charge of discrimination that asks the agency to take action. The tweet did not mention the incident between the Democrats and Trump, though it was posted one day after the president’s remarks.

For me it is as simple as this, I disagree completely with their ideas...makes no difference what color their skin is. I hated Hillary just as much and am thrilled that she is not the President. I also disagree with all of the Democratic candidates and would not vote for a single one of them. Biden may be the most sane of the bunch, but dislike his policies as well.

PH, indeed. I have a close friend that is a practicing psychiatrist for the past 35 years. He said Trump is clearly a sociopath and pathological. He lies without even knowing and is devoid of empathy.

Glad I'm not the only one enjoying him. A feature in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine tipped me off to him. He really deserves wider exposure. LOVED A Very Stable Genius. His average stuff is great. His great stuff is epic. He's quite a talented gent. The NPR interview was also very good. Love Fresh Air. I'd pay to listen to Terry Gross read the phone book.
