My wife and I alternate every year as far as who picks what the major vacation destination will be. Though we’ve only been back from Germany for a few weeks, she’s already been asking if I’ve given thought to the 2020 destination.

Thinking domestic...

San Diego is wonderful and welcoming

Bill, domestic meaning USA or does North America work?

The National Economic Report issued a white paper executed by economists from the Federal Reserve, Princeton and Columbia economists. Their conclusion is that Americans paid for nearing 100% of the entire trade tariffs to date.

Well knock me over with a feather. This doesn’t include the money ( more than double the automotive bailout) Trump has given to the farmers going bankrupt. The two largest producers of milk ( Deans Food and Borden) in the states have now filed bankruptcy in the past 60 days. Bankruptcy, now there is a topic the orange pile of dung indeed knows something about. With his 6 from 1991 to 2009 the conman for once has knowledge of a topic.

Domestic generally refers to your home country, no?

It was somewhat a joking reaction to yesterday’s events, pending the reaction of the diaper jockey in chief.

... which is why I asked “ or does North America work too.”

You are far closer to Montreal/ Ottawa , Vancouver and St.John’s Newfoundland than Hawaii and Alaska!  Canada in the summer is pretty special.

Have you explored the four corners and Monument Valley National Park region? Stunning.

And the Canadian dollar makes a holiday here 25% cheaper off the top than one in the US.

We are currently in Montreal staying in a very nice centrally located Le Meridien for CAD$150 or USD$112 a night

Just sayin'......

It is becoming increasingly difficult not to just go numb with the volume of idiocy.

If you live in a swing state and know people who didn't vote in 2016, please do what you can to energize them.  If you know people who voted for it who were just being contrary, take a shot at them.  If you know folks who voted for him consciously, well... I'm sorry for you.  I have a few of them around me too.

Hopefully the Dems will come up with a better candidate then last time, or some of us will vote for the 3rd party candidate again or just decline to vote at all. And if you think I'm throwing my vote away, I live in the state that gave Hillary 55 electoral votes.

Blah, blah, blah. Is that what "some of us will do"? This year the choice is simple; you're either for decency and democracy or you're not. Real tough choice.

For arsenal, who is a CA resident, his vote for president will largely be irrelevant as to the electors.  Mine, as a MD resident, is also pretty meaningless in that context.  That said, it is critical that the electorate provide a resounding defeat to the current squatter in the WH.  Anything close in either the popular vote or the electoral college will be fodder for madness like we haven't seen yet.

Well put.

I couldn't agree with PH more. What TOM either doesn't understand, or refuses to admit, just any Dem won't do. The Independent electorate appears, from all polls, to dislike the "progressive" agenda of Warren and Sanders. Dems need to pick a candidate who can beat Trump in swing states. Both coasts will follow whomever the Dems select, but PA, FL, OH, etc are a different matter.

Bingo!

In 2016, I often said that the only reason Trump could win, is he's running against Hillary. But I truly believe the reverse of that was true as well. Don't get me wrong; I'm voting (again) against Trump. But the Dems have to field someone who is at least palatable to swing voters. And they've shown an amazing talent so far trying not to.

It is possible to acknowledge that Warren would be terrible and Bernie a disaster if either got elected, and that Bernie would probably loose to Trump and Warren almost certainly would and also to recognize that they are both functioning adults with reasonable moral compasses, which makes either infinitely preferable to Trump.  This is the attitude that lifelong R's like Tom Nichols, Rick Wilson, Bill Kristol, and (how the F do they stay married?) George Conway are taking.  Every vote is going to count in the upcoming election.  I'm doing everything I can to make Biden the nominee, both through money and volunteering, because he is sane, "politically sane", and most importantly consistently matches up the best against Trump.  But come the General, no matter who the D nominee is, we're going to need all hands on deck.  I genuinely don't think the country as we understand it can survive 4 more years of Drumpf.

"...just any Dem won't do." Never said any Dem will do. As for the rest it seems rather obvious, no? Doesn't mean the wrong person won't be picked. Bernie Sanders would be the 21st century Eugene McCarthy. However, again, I did say this and I'll say it again: You're either for decency and democracy or you're not. If not enough people get that then they'll get what they deserve.

How can Bernie run as a democrat?  He is registered as an Independant

There's no "Independent" party." He can run for the nomination for any party he wishes--if they'll have him. And unfortunately too many Democrats continue to support him.

Maybe they could do a "Dave" switcheroo, and replace him with Larry David soon after the election. I mean, really, who would notice?

But I don't want to.

Plus it wouldn’t be off topic. Fail, dude.

That's the point. On this thread talking about wine would be both random and off topic. Pretty much the same goes for anything other than politics. It's become the whine thread

As I did in my last response:  It’s a homophone!
