Steven Spurrier just passed away. A tragic loss and a sad day in the world of wine. RIP.

He was a descendant of Dr. Samuel Mudd, who was the physician who treated John Wilkes Booth after the assassination of Lincoln.
From the NY Times: "Allan McDonald Dies at 83; Tried to Stop the Challenger Launch--
An engineer for the maker of the shuttle’s booster rockets, he opposed letting it take off, worried that cold weather might affect them. He was right."

Marvelous Marvin Hagler at the relatively young age of 66. RIP.
Yaphet Kotto. A favorite actor of mine. 81
Sabine Schmitz. Queen of the Nurburgring. 51.
Maestro James Levine, 77.
Sally Grossman, the woman in the red dress on the cover of Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home, 81.
And wife of Dylan manager Albert Grossman.

There is a petition to have a corner at the N-Ring named after her. Seems appropriate. I know a bunch of people that know her and her mom (who owns a hotel across the road from the Ring) and it wasn't widely known she was battling cancer.

Charlie Chaplin died, too.
From the NY Times, "Kent Taylor, Texas Roadhouse Founder and C.E.O., Dies at 65
Mr. Taylor died by suicide after suffering from post-Covid-19 symptoms, including severe tinnitus, the company said."
As one with tinnitus since I was 20 I can understand. Fortunately mine is not severe enough to be heard during waking hours. Some of the stories about people who continue to have Covid symptoms are truly horrifying.
NBA great Elgin Baylor at 86.
The term “great” is used too frequently. But not in the case of Elgin Baylor who was truly great.
I agree. Baylor and West were both great and saw them numerous times at the LA Sports Arena. So sad they couldn't beat Boston in those days.
Former Formula 1 driver Johnny Dumfries has died at the age of 62.
The Scotsman raced under a pseudonym to disguise his aristocratic background - he was John Crichton-Stuart, the seventh Marquess of Bute.
Former England striker Frank Worthington has died aged 72 following a long illness.
Worthington, who won eight England caps and scored twice for the national team, began his career at Huddersfield Town.
Actor George Segal at 87.
I always loved George Segal. His appearances on Johnny Carson, where he would often play the banjo and once sang the long forgotten song, The Yama Yama Man, were always a delight. Of course I'm a fan of Where's Papa?, but his performance in King Rat may be his best.
Actor Jessica Walter at 80.
Author Larry McMutry at 84.
From the New York Times, "G. Gordon Liddy", Mastermind Behind Watergate Burglary, Dies at 90 "
"Mastermind" here may be giving a little too much credit here.

A better headline: "G. Gordon Liddy, convicted felon and Nazi sympathizer, Dies at 90."
Actor Gloria Henry, who played the mother on Dennis the Menace, at 98.
Anne Beatts, not just there during the glory days of SNL, but also of National Lampoon's.
Prince Philip.
Long live the Queen. Do you think Prince Harry will attend the funeral? Meghan Markle? President Biden? VP Harris?

Sad, of course, that the Prince passed, but he certainly lived a long and fulfilling life.
When the Queen passes, the impacts will probably be felt around the world.
@flwino posted:He deserves a high rep from the US. At least Harris. Harry better show up for his own skin, and bring his wife. The family feud has gone on too long.
If he is close to his grandfather he should go. Otherwise, I wouldn't give much time to family that treated my wife as poorly as the claim.
Ramsey Clark at 93.
Lee Hart, wife of former Presidential candidate Gary Hart, at 85.

Harry is going, but Meghan not. Apparently her doctor advised against travel given her pregnancy.
Given the restrictions on attendance, only family and friends are being invited. Even Boris Johnson will not attend, so all the more unlikely that anyone from the Biden administration will go.
