Horse With No Name had quite possibly the most monotonous musical notes ever written. One of the most boring songs.
I grew up on Classical music. I really didn't realize there was new music being written (except the Beatles) until I went to college. One day someone played "Horse with No Name" for me. Horrible piece of crap.

Have you ever ridden a horse? My take on the song was that the rhythm was deliberate to imitate the cadence of a walking horse.

The lyrics are unintelligible to me. Plus they had another song with almost the identical "melody."
I'll throw in the backup cap on this one MNeeley! Horse was a soothing song when you were in hippy mode. Bad grammar, but something Neil Young tastes fancied.

You know the wind-chill factor? My brother, the meteorologist, came up with a similar scale, but for heat and humidity, which he calls the "humisery index."
I apologize to all the American fans out there. All three of you.
I confess to knowing very little about Rock Music. When I was graduating college many years ago I got a job in a record store before starting law school. People would come in and ask if we had newly released albums. The names of the artists and albums made little sense to me. I knew that Beethoven wrote 9 symphonies. The first is called Beethoven's 1st. The second, the 2nd. And so forth. That made sense.

But the group names were strange and made no sense. We had an album called Sparticus by Triumvirat, or maybe it was Triumvirat by Sparticus.
Anyway, one day I am near the front of the store. A man opened the door and said, "Do you have Empty Cartons?" I said, "Is that rock, or jazz, or soul, or R&B? I can help you find it."
He said, "No man, I am moving.....I need empty cartons....you know...previously filled boxes."
Oh well.

LOLHey, to each their own. The 90's was not my decade, so I am a bit lost in the other music thread flamewars.
Your critique of America made me wonder if you were mixing them up with a similar group called Bread . If so, I would agree with you. BTW, I have a decent classical collection as well.
