Ricardo Madera and I will be visiting northern Spain to visit wine producers in Ribera del Duero and Rioja. Home base will be Burgos, and then we will tack on a few days in Madrid.

Anyone who happens to be in the area and would like to get together for dinner, wine, or other unspecified debauchery is invited to get in touch.

I received a vey polite email from VS telling me that they don't do consumer visits. It's the most gracious turn-away I have ever received. Shows a bit of class.

Unfortunately, I'm not exactly friends with the VS distributor in our market, so that avenue won't work for me.

KCS02 was a help for us.

OTW they do indeed host visits but they can be a bit 'selective' when it comes to this. I originally went through the SAQ Signature services who put me in touch with the importer for Quebec. I can try to find that info if you send me an email.

W+A got in, however, via a local contact after my communication with them didn't work for the dates he was in the area. So his guy's pull was clearly stronger than mine... Wink

It's well worth the visit if you can swing it.
Email sent. Hopefully, you still use the same Hotmail account that I have in my address list from some years ago.

Planning this trip has been a bit of an eye-opener for me. I didn't realise how many high-end Spanish wines, from producers like Vina Sastre, Sierra Cantabria/Vinedos de Páganos, are available through the SAQ which I haven't seen in Ontario. Perhaps I've not been paying enough attention, but I think this should be an embarrassment for the LCBO. They aren't even in the game!

Do they carry any Bodegas Roda Cirsion?

Just one of the many wines we fell in love with while there last year. Unfortunately, somewhat hard to find overall.

Yes, the 2010 Roda Cirsion is available both in Toronto and Ottawa at $235 Cdn tax incl (about $175 USD). The SAQ has both the 2009 and 2011, but not 2010.

Are there any other wines you discovered on your trip to northern Spain? And any under-the-radar producers that were unexpectedly good visits?
