(Not exactly tasting notes but the best I can do to give something back to my beloved fellow board members. That's you.)
We had a barbequed brisket from Jack Stack, a mail-order barbeque place in Tennesse(?). Before the meal we opened a 1999 Dom. Cheze Condrieu which was corked. We poured that out and opened a 2000 regular Guigal Condrieu which was very good.
With the brisket (which was only okay, not as much flavor as I had hoped) we had a 2001 Carlisle Gum Tree Ranch Zinfandel which was drinking beautifully and went perfectly with the barbeque sauce taste. (I believe it was above 15% alcohol.)
For dessert we opened a 2001 Rieussec Sauternes and served with Roquefort Cheese and some kind of cake (not chocolate). This was the wine of the night and I can give one tasting note: Apricot. Everyone thought it was the best sweet wine they had ever had. I had to give our guests another bottle when they left.
