Our favorite winery in the area is Cascade Cliffs, on the WA side of the river. Bob Lorkowski is making some very fine Syrahs. Maryhill is good, but a step below Cascade Cliffs. On the OR side of the river, you might enjoy a visit to Flerchinger Vineyard to try the worwst wines we've had from the northwest.

The Columbia Gorge Hotel is a great place to stay, high up on the cliffs above the river. The views are wonderful, as is the dining room. Because we were staying in the hotel, we weren't charged corkage. When the chef came out, we offered him a glass of our wine, which he loved. Then he disappeared and came back with a bottle which he shared with us. Food was outstanding.
Board-O,

I'm not sure what you mean by to try the worwst wines we've had from the northwest, unless you are either warning me away or being funny.

I thought about staying at the Columbia Gorge Hotel, but my wife decided she didn't need to spend the extra money to stay there so we are staying in Ft. Hood. Since I rarely argue with her, I agreed.

I also rarely get her to agree that I can spend time winery visiting that much, but I do get to take all of one of the two days we will be in the area for just that so I figured I'd ask for advice since most of those wineries are unknown outside the AVA for the most part.
