I enjoyed this, too, and agree that Season 2 looks like it could be promising.

We have been watching The Getaway on the new Esquire network. It's basically the same exact show as the Layover was on the travel channel (same production team), but is hosted by a different celebrity in a different city each show. If you like travel and food, it's an easy and fun watch. So far the celebrities haven't been to bad, except for the girl in Paris this last week. Hard to look at and kind of annoying, but it was still fun to see Paris and the lovely food. Plus they went to Verjus which was one of our favorites from our last trip.

I think Low Winter Sun has gotten better, but it still suffers from characters that are tough to identify with/care about. Overall I'm still a bit ambivalent about it.

I agree on The Bridge -- pretty strong first season and season 2 looks promising.

Masters of Sex on Showtime, catch up using On Demand. A too cute title for a look at the scientists William Masters and Virginia Johnson and their research that led to the groundbreaking (overused term deserved here) book, Human Sexual Response.

Very interesting docu-drama that's also fun, and yes, a bit sexy. As with all filmed bios there is some truth stretching, but it's still a fascinating alternate look at the time of Mad Men.

I'm watching The Wire for the first time, and am on the second season. Great show.

You are in for a treat. Best show ever IMO. 2nd season was my least fav, but stick it out because it's worth it.

Loved the first 2 seasons of BSG. It was obvious when the writers-strike hit, because it started to seriously lose its focus, though I still enjoyed it

As for the Wire -- hard to beat. Not the strongest series ending IMO but a fantastic run with some of the best acting I have seen in a series

Anyone watching The Blacklist? Not bad, for network fare. I couldn't care less about most of the characters, but James Spader is electrifying!

I love the Blacklist, more for the ongoing mysteries about the Spader's character, the husband, and the female lead. Based on tonight's episode, seems we may start to get some answers next week!

And yes, Spader is worth the effort all on his own.

Blacklist is the only new show I watch. Agree re: pretty good for network fare, and Spader makes it. The rest merely support his character. Interesting/humorous 'desk' reference this week to his movie 'The Secretary'. Maybe more questions about the female lead's husbands to come....

I see where Homeland was picked up for season #4 ( highest ratings on cable this season) and Masters of Sex for a second season also.

I'm almost through Ray Donovan and very impressed with the acting.

It took me awhile to figure out that the actress who plays Ray's wife was also Trixie in Deadwood.

I also like Steven Bauer as Ray's right-hand man. He was very good as Don Eladio in Breaking Bad.

I'm finally going to see what all the fuss is about regarding Game of Thrones. Just received season 1 from Netflix.

Just started "The Walking Dead" on a flight today. 2 shows in, and looking good so far. I have a lot of catch up to do but I think this is going to be my next series for flights and gym outings

Saw the two hour premiere of Mob City on TNT. Looks like it might be pretty good.

This show started off so-so with some boring filler episodes in between, but was interesting enough to kept me going for 20 episodes. Since then, Season 2 has been steadily improving. I must say it is a pleasant surprise.

Sons of Anarchy finale...holy sh*t.

I have only seen bits and pieces. As a corporate litigation lawyer, I have a hard time watching any law related tv shows.

Try Rake. From the premier, the title character is played a bit broadly by Greg Kinnear, but I know some defense attorneys who are not far off the mark. I also found the judge's chambers scene to be unusually realistic.

My daughter and I are finishing up The Shield. If you thought Walter White was a shocking anti-hero wait until you see what Vic Mackey does. However, even though the show manages to be exciting for 7 seasons it cannot touch Breaking Bad (nor for that matter The Wire) for greatness.

Spoils of Babylon. Pretty damn funny spoof of network mini series. On IFC. With Will Ferrell narrating, playing a Orson Welles type director. Great cast.

Black Sails, just watched and enjoyed the first episode. Will watch the next 4 episodes over the 4 day weekend.

Hill Street Blues - the Complete Series

Pre-ordered this 34-disc set on Amazon.ca. Regularly $140, but there was a pricing glitch for a few hours and it was listed for $16.49. Amazon quickly fixed it, but they still honoured their "lowest price guarantee". And I still got free shipping because my original order was over $39.

Can't beat that.

As for the series, surprisingly, it still holds up. Some 80s TV contrivances, but for the most part the acting and writing is strong.
