Finally got around to watching the final season of House of Cards. I am hard pressed to think of another TV series that put forth such a crappy final season. In short, it sucked and if that's the best the writers could do then it's a good thing the show is over. Really poor script to write off Francis, heavy handed (ham-fisted) themes, suddenly introducing two new characters out of nowhere who take center stage and just overall lazy writing. Why bother? Add to that, as much as I hate to admit it, Robin Wright just could not carry the show. She was excellent when she had Francis to conspire with or fight against, but lost without him. And she absolutely could not pull off the asides to the camera. It felt like she was reading a tele-prompter whereas Spacey shone in those moments.

I bailed on this show in a prior season when I could no longer suspend my disbelief at the events taking place.  However, my wife continued until the end, and whenever she had it on while I was around, your thoughts echo my own at what I was witnessing.  To be fair, Spacey put the lot of them, writers included, in a real dark place when his escapades came to light.

+1000

We gave up after 3 episodes, and even those three were a tough slog.

Umbrella Academy

Very odd series but we really enjoyed it.  First couple of episodes raise lots of questions, with one or two answered each episode but many left unanswered, presumably for a second season.  The 15 year old actor playing a kid who is really a 58 year old cynical assassin does a great job of pulling off a tough assignment.  If you enjoyed Preacher, this is as weird but a notch above in the plot department.

Loved the first 6-episode season of Derry Girls.  Set in Londonderry / Derry in Northern Ireland around 1990. Follows a group of Catholic school girls.

Really sharp, profane and funny. If you liked the Brit series Peep Show you'd probably enjoy this. The dialogue comes fast and furious, though, so if you aren't familiar with Northern Ireland accents you might miss a fair bit. (You can probably watch it with subtitles.) Mrs. S's family is from Belfast, so I was able to catch 90% of it.

A clip from one episode:

That clip is right up my alley.  Is it available in the US?  Netflix, Amazon?

Season 2 of Derry Girls is now available on Netflix (season 1 also).  Great series.

Anyone watching "Stranger things"?

I didn't watch it. Is it good?

I'm currently watching True Detective (finally jailbroke my firestick following the guide by link). The first season is awesome! The actors are great, and the plot is interesting. As for the second season, I haven't finished it yet, but I don't like it so much. I hope the 3rd season would be better.
