Anyone else watching Homeland? Another great season.

Last night was awesome.

Next season, their last will focus more on espionage and will not be based in the U.S.

Won't be able to watch last night's episode until Tuesday. It's been an odd season. I've enjoyed the last half of the season, but it took awhile to get in gear. What was the point of the subplot with Brett O'Keefe? It went nowhere, and then they just dropped it completely. I expect they were trying to wrap up loose threads from the previous season, but nothing was wrapped up. He just disappeared from the storyline.

Also watching the final season of The Americans which has been excellent so far.

The Americans

Continues to be the most amazing show on television. (GoT is its own thing.)  So sad to see it ending but, WOW. What a ride. Anyone not watching should start from the beginning but for me it really picked up in the third season.

Been watching from the beginning. The most underappreciated program on TV.

Why is that?  I don't watch much TV.  I think Northern Exposure was the last show I watched regularly.  What have I missed?

First, the time period, the Cold War, and the plot Russian spies planted as a typical American family. Second, the show was created by a former CIA officer which brings some reality to the proceedings in the way John le Carre's spy background informs many of his novels. The acting is great, beside the spy couple, played by real life couple Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, there's so many strong supporting actors like Noah Emmerich as their FBI agent next door neighbor, the always wonderful Margo Martindale and Frank Langella as the spies' handlers. Third, when we go into the Russian embassy, or travel to Russia, the actors always speak Russian with English provided as subtitles. Very authentic.

The show has built up the suspense and action leading to tomorrow's show finale. It's done it with intelligent scripts and mind-blowing tense scenes between the actors. Best drama series since Breaking Bad (though Breaking Bad is greater.)  Though Game of Thrones is in a special category of its own.

To add to TOM’s post... the show works on many levels. It is an extraordinary spy thriller that also is the best family drama on television. I’ve never seen spy craft so well displayed in any medium. And it also is very much about the immigrant experience. It manages to pull it all off while being honest.  Top to bottom the acting is exceptional. I like it more than Breaking Bad but apart from that, I agree with TOM’s assessment that it is the best show on television. (Again, GoT is its own thing.)

Last week the two creators of the show, after being asked about the show's topicality in today's world, said they specifically didn't want to make a topical show. With Russia in the news for the last 17 months or so the show's look at the past wound up reflecting on world events today.

(Who did not love the heart to awful heart that Paige and Elizabeth had last week? Nice interview with Holly Taylor.
Do not watch unless you've seen the series.

Really enjoying The Expanse.  I have read all the books and had some concerns over the casting but so far it's very well done

I enjoyed this very much.  Had similar issues with the casting, but I got over it.  There are enough differences as the story unfolds to make it interesting, even if you've read the books.

I watched the first season. Couldn't get into it, even though I generally enjoy sci-fi. I had the same problem with Babylon 5 and Fire Fly.

I wonder if I would have enjoyed The Expanse as much if I had not read the books.  It's a weird environment to wrap your brain around, and the books gave me a good jump start on buying into the premise.  If you haven't read them, I highly recommend it, mneeley.

Finished Bosch Season 4  excellent. Probably the best season so far. Great cast

For magic nerds like myself (and not to give a spoiler) it was obvious what the ring was, it even has a name. This was a great season and I loved that it hit so many characteristic spots of LA. It's hard to resist using the Bradbury building for the hundredth time.
