I watched The Last Kingdom series this weekend. It is based on the books from Bernard Cornwell, which are great.

This is much much better than the Shannara Chronicles.

The actor who plays Alfred the Great is wonderful, and the scenery and filming is top-notch.

I like it...very sophomoric humor in a good way.

My daughter (31) tells me I must watch this. "Don't do any research, and don't let the intensity of the first episode throw you off..." or something like that. We have similar tastes, so I'm going to give it a try.

Actually, I don't think I really know what she looks like.

Watched the first 3 episodes of The X-Files 2016. Overall, I was a fan of the original, so I'm enjoying these for the most part. I liked the the first episode, second was OK, and the third was an example of one of "wackier" ones they'd do sometimes (which were not usually my favorites during the original run). Hoping the last 2 or 3 are better.
Latest season of Marco Polo good, but not as good as previous work.

Last Chance U on Netflix: Very entertaining for those involved in athletics.

The Night Of

Great lead role for John Turturro - a part that was originally meant for James Gandolfini.

The glacial pacing might not be to everyone's taste, but I love that it feels like the story is unfolding in real time. Looking forward to watching last night's episode this evening which introduces a new character played by Michael Kenneth Williams, aka Omar from The Wire.

After two episodes this just feels like a typical police procedural with LOTS of padding.

Hence my caveat. One man's ceiling is another man's floor. Razz

Just started this show and am enjoying it. Yes, a little slow, but I do not usually "binge" watch shows, like to take them in 1 at a time.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED EPISODE 6:

I don't like when a show gets cute with pseudo-medicine.

Not sure how old you are, but the "Monster" episode was a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Kolchak: The Night Stalker, starring Darren McGavin. Chris Carter often cites Kolchak as his inspiration for The X-Files. As this was my favorite show as a 13 year old, I spotted it right away from the previews. That sear-sucker suit and porkpie hat was a dead-giveaway. Big Grin

I was pleasantly surprised to find The Twilight Zone on Amazon Prime! I don't think I've seen every episode. When I saw them it seemed like it was haphazard in reruns.
My son got me hooked on the Naked and Afraid XL series, season 2 - which is in Africa. Pretty interesting, especially the last episode.

I'm not quite sure what the point is about the people being naked. The participants don't look very good after Day 2.

I caught that too. I went though the first season and is was a reminder of how good that show was.
Stranger Things

A great big 80s mashup of Stephen King, John Carpenter and Steven Spielberg... but done with real affection and a whole lot of smarts.

Pure enjoyment.
"You're the Worst" a series my girlfriend introduced me to on Hulu. About a pair of really snarky urbanites with a couple of sidekicks. Not a sit-com, it reminds me of Seinfeld, and Arrested Development, but unlike either really. It also does a nice job of its handling of a main character who has depression (Season 2 I believe).
I have had some long flights recently so I got into Bosch on Amazon Prime. Really well done police drama. I like everything about it. Got through the first 2 seasons pretty quick.

Good to know. I'm flying a lot the next six weeks.
Good start to Designated Survivor I thought. But I have to remind myself that this will probably be a lot of political drama, and Jack Bauer isn't going to kick some ass.

I DVR'd it, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I'm guessing I'll have to go in with that same mindset.

We really enjoyed it too.
I tried Quantico and bailed an episode-and-a-half in. I found it trite and paint by numbers, and I get that people on TV are generally good looking, but the people on this show are so impossibly attractive it borders on absurd. Hard to explain.

I am enjoying Jessica Jones a great deal though. Well acted, written and directed. Smarter show than I thought it would be initially.

LOL, that's probably what's kept me from checking it out. If he goes Jack Bauer at some point, lemme know!
