I get quite a bit of mail order wine in the winter and so far no problems. I am a LOT more worried about summer shipments and usually delay some of those past when the winery wants to ship them. I look at winter as a great time to be shipping wine.

I usually let my winter wines sit in the shipping carton for a day before I open them. I also don't try wines recently shipped for at least two weeks.

I really worry about having a wine sit in my car when its 80 dgrees out and avoid that.
Right, sorry for that guys, LJ and MJS are correct. It didn't occur to me that in the context it could be understood as snow or rain... Smile

What I meant was that in low temperateures particles could fall out, precipitate, from the wine. We're talking coloring matter and tartrate crystals. The latter one is potassiumbitartrate, which is a salt (not table salt, obviously, but salt as a chemical concept) of tartaric acid which is one of the acids in wine. (Beside lactic, citric and malic acid.)

It therefore stands to reason that acidity in the wine could diminish. I don't know if it does so noticeably.
