Port Tongs

So I have been on a "quest" for sometime to get old school port tongs (not the wire type but original style metal tongs) Found one place that sold it in Europe for a hefty price with an even heftier shipping charge.
On a complete lark, I went to a wine distributor website who I knew imported lots of Portuguese wines especially Port. Got the name/number of person responsible for that region. Left a nice voice-mail for them about how I have been buying the wines they import for years, know there salespeople from tastings, wine events on the island and dropped a few other clues to show them I was serious about wines. I then asked if they could assist me in procuring said tongs and pretty much forgot about the voicemail.

2 weeks ago got a return call out of the blue, they put a set of tongs in a cargo container on a ship destined for New York and should be here sometime in September or October.
I am planning/hoping of being able to pick up tongs at their offices so I can bring a nice bottle of vintage port to try out the tongs and share the wine.

yea dave there lives 20 minutes or so away from me.

part of port drinking group.

wasn't me though that brought in the tongs. but the symington guys are actually very very helpful with these like this so credit where credit is due.

tho, if you guys really do want

let me know and i could probably ask one of the wineries to throw it in the container
Although I drank port prior to gman and the folks at another board I will say it was them that made me into a port lover and not someone who drank port. Gman is invaluable for a lot more than his knowledge on Port.
Speaking of which - Roni has been bugging me about not having you and the family over. Please can we plan somethin were our kids play while we drink port and our wifes do the wife thing? Any weekend which works for you I will make work for us!

I have friends that visit Portugal regularly and could ask them to bring some back. Otherwise, I could loan you mine until you can procure a pair. I rarely use them except on special occassions (wine guy weekend).

certainly puts sabering to shame ;-)
Received my package today. Was very surprised when I found 2 brand new sets of fonseca branded port tongs. I would love to thank the importer here but I didn't ask then tet so I will wait in case they don't want info released. But a big thank you and I can't wait to you use. vacation =)

what you guys up to around thanksgiving time?
used the port tongs on Saturday, worked pretty much as expected. Cut was very clean but did have one little valley/peak area so I am thinking an extra few minutes on the tong cooking time next time. Posted a video on facebook but heck if I know how to get it linked here.
