Hello,

The Mimik will be in Philadelphia at the end of the month for 5 days during the TG weekend. I wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for wine stores that are worth visiting. I am aware that like Quebec, Pennsylvania has a liquor monopoly so I am looking for their flagship store where I could find interesting items.

Any recos on must dining? I am not staying in the city per se but in a nearby city/suburb.

Thanks in advance.

It's been a few years, but I've enjoyed meals at Matyson on several occasions. BYO.

Futronic, which restaurant were we at when we had some many wines showing so poorly in Philly?
Mimik, where are you going to be? I grew up in the Philly suburbs (Plymouth Meeting/King of Prussia area) and may be able to help you with wine stores. I'm not current on restaurants though. I'm assuming that you'll have a car?

I had the opportunity to view the Barnes collection about 20 yrs ago and have to agree that it is an extremely impressive collection. If you have the opportunity to see it, I would definitely do it.
If you are looking for a nice place for a starter cocktail hour, go to R2L in Liberty Place towers.

Last time I was there they were pouring anything on the wine menu in half bottle decanters, think this is still the case -- nice list too.

Food is good, if a bit pricey.

12th and Chestnut has the biggest selection in town, Garces Trading has a wine store in it, first of its kind. 99% European wine, only cold room, I am sure you could find something interesting there.

AND if you like burgers, Whiskey Village off Rittenhouse. Bar none, best burger ever.

Mimik, what are your plans during your trip to Philly?

No real plans. Visiting friends. Will be there from the Wednesday 24th to the Monday the 29th.

I will be staying in Downingtown, PA but I will be going into town often.

Joe, I'll definitely check out your blog.

Thanks all for your recos. Would be interested in meeting for an offline if there are any Phili forumites but I don't see many online.
It looks like the closest premium collection store is in Exton.

LIONVILLE SHOPPING CTR.

It maybe just as easy to pickup something at the previously recommended Chestnut st store while you are downtown though.

There is also an option to order on line and pick up at the local PLCB store. I've never tried doing it though.
