Last night, I was in the cellar conducting an about once a year physical inventory. I was in the final stretches and was pulling the bottles from the corners and checking the contents of the bins versus my spreadsheet. I put some bottles back on the top shelf and turned to enter something on the laptop. I heard a clink and then felt shocking pain from my right foot. Apparently, I didn't put one of the sloped shouldered bottles back properly and it slid off, fell about 6 1/2 feet and landed on my toes.
I'm crediting the cork floor for the fact that the bottle didn't break and my toes weren't completely shattered. My "index" toe bore the brunt of it and may be broken, though.
Anticipating two questions: (i) it was a 2004 Casunuova de la Cerbaie Brunello di Montalcino and (ii) we usually don't wear shoes in the house and I was in bare feet.
