My wife came home with some good news today so I opened a bottle of NV Louis de Sacy Champagne Brut Rosé Grand Cru, which has a lovely deep salmon colour, fine mousse, cherry, dough, some strawberry, mineral and a bit of ginger, medium-long finish, very nice. I like this Rosé quite a bit more than this producer's regular Brut.

Took off last Friday with a couple of fellow seafood/shellfish lovers on a 4-day gorge-and-drink weekend up north. Great way to celebrate my birthday this year. In the back of the SUV, we were loaded up with a truly impressive supply of Nova Scotia lobsters, king crab, and several boxes of oysters (Kusshi, Raspberry Point and Fanny Bay). For variety and palate relief, there was also a bunch of steaks. Wines served were:

2002 Collett Millesime Brut
2002 Lacourte Godbilion Brut
2004 Drappier Grande Sendree
NV Drappier Zero Dosage
NV Gaston Chquet Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne d'Aÿ
NV Pierre Peters Brut Blancs d Blancs Cuvee de Reserve
2011 Evening Land Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard Eola-Amity Hills
2011 Stonestreet Chardonnay Broken Road
2011 Emmerich Knoll Ried Schütt Dürnsteiner Riesling Smaragd
2007 FX Pichler Riesling Smaragd Trocken Wachau Loibner Berg
2007 Prager Riesling Smaragd Trocken Wachau Klaus
2007 Frank Family Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve
2007 Cliff Lede Cabernet Sauvignon
2011 David Arthur Cabernet Sauvignon Three Acre
1997 Frescobaldi Lamaione
2003 Paolo Scavino Barolo

Given some of the negative comments about 2003 barolos, I was curious how the Scavino wine would perform ... and I was happy to find it drinking quite nicely for their low-end blended Barolo.

For me, the two best wines were the 2011 Emmerich Knoll Ried Schütt Dürnsteiner Riesling and the 1997 Lamaione.

Sounds like a heavenly weekend!

Wow that's a great 4-day outing!

As is my style, I'm keying in on the Napa cabs. Love the Frank Family cabs. But would be interested in learning more about that Riesling. This is a grape I still have very little experience with. My off the shelf buying at local liquor stores has never turned out quite well

1979 Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace Napa

A nice afternoon, dzitt. How did the Diamond Creek show for you? Was this your first? I can't recall.

Not the first old Diamond Creek I had (opened a 1981 Volcanic Hill last year), but with this 1979 yes. The best wine at yesterday's lunch, by far and for all attendees.

Will write a TN on this since I was so impatient to open it and it didn't fail to satisfy Smile

Glad you're doing better. Sounds like a tough 2 weeks.

I've liked the Pirrimimma PV in the past, but never held one that long. Usually buy and drink a couple.

Try eating some chicken tartare, that will get you halfway there.
Last night with GlennK and Gigabit:

2005 Guigal Ex Voto Blanc - Stunning wine that continued to change throughout the evening.
1982 Chateau Magdelaine - Slightly corked and a shame
1987 Dominus - Dark color and still very young IMO. Nice menthol and tobacco notes. Tasty.
2008 Chateau Mouton Rothschild - A beast. Opened up some in the decanter and was giving more than expected. Not sure I would have pegged it as Bdx blind by the nose.

Report please!

+1

Off a restaurant wine list. Started light on it's feet with an interesting sweetness and very light colour. Over time it gained weight, amazing red fruit, fantastic bouquet, silky with good acidity.
Initially very understated but the type that in time, you can't stay away from.

How was it? A lot of restaurants in town carry Sanguineti wines -

It was OK. It seems to be in an awkward phase right now. In transition between primary fruits and herbaceousness. Early on I would've given it a mid 90s score. Now it wouldn't hit 90. Give it time to slow-O? Who knows.
Lineup for dinner with friends tomorrow night I believe will be:

NV Louis Roederer Champagne Brut Premier
2011 Fess Parker Santa Rita Hills Ashley's Vyd. Chard.
2012 Francois Chidaine Vouvray Sec Les Argiles
2000 Les Tourelles de Longueville (Mag)
2003 Mas de Boislauzon CdP Cuvee du Quet
2004 Clarendon Hills Syrah Liandra
2011 Antica Terra Pinot Noir Botanica
