Another group of friends in town on business. Went to the brasserie on top of the Oxo tower. Awesome views of London at night.

I started with some grilled squid with chorizo. Main was a roasted spiced lamb rump with baby ghanoush and chorizo chickpea tagine. Wine list was ridiculously marked up, but the waiter helped pick out a nice 2005 Cotes de Nuits that was a nice pair with everyone’s meal. Food doesn’t justify the price tag here, but the views at night are spectacular. I would recommend just going for a drink.
Mexican food in London...bad choice.

By the way, Corona is really popular in pubs here. With all these cool small production cask beers here, people are still paying twice as much for a Corona!! It’s not just the new pubs, these old rickety pubs that have been around for 100 years are selling Corona, Budweiser, and red bull based cocktails. It’s insanity!!

I saw this older “proper” english lady the other day eating a meat pie with a Corona. Got to be kidding me! Rant over. Big Grin

Not anymore Smile I’ve been here 3 weeks and haven’t had fish n chips once! I need to fix that this week...
B-day dinner and I get to cook - how does that work?!? Confused

Actually, I planned it that way - the past three weeks of work have been total horse-shiitake, so a night cooking was actually therapuetic. Anyway, how about braised beef short ribs, sticky rice, and snow peas. Braising liquid (rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, chili-garlic sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic and ginger) was reduced and spooned over the finished ribs and rice, then dusted w/toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Perfect match to some '05 Mauritson Rockpile Road Vineyard Zinfandel.
