how old is the baby?
DoktaP...thanks for your kind regards. It was a great pleasure to meet with you and others at that OL in Chicago. Since then, another has come into my life that has opened my eyes to what true love really is. I am amazed and humbled by her, and after all these years I now "get it" when people refer to their significant other as their soulmate. She is more than delightful, and it is my pleasure to have her meet with some of the most interesting people I have met through this board. I know this is a busy time of year, but I am hoping to have the pleasure to meet with some of the NY forumites in December. Cheers Dok...looking forward to the next chance we have to share a bottle or two.
NYC forumites, are there any preferences for an offline date? I'm thinking either Dec 15 (Sat) or 16 (Sun). My preference would be the latter.

Restaurant options:
Sat - Peking Duck House (about $60 pp), North Square (about $100 but we need to guarantee a minimum)
Sun - Peking Duck House, Gentleman Farmer (about $75 pp).

All the restaurants above allow BYO for a reasonable corkage fee.

MJ - hopefully we can get something firmed up shortly after Thanksgiving.
Either one works for me as well. I would prefer during the week but will go with the masses. What does MJ want to drink??

Gman, if you are around, I would like to meet up with you and bring some samples if you have them, opening up a wine shop soon.

Mike
Would love to join you. First choice is 12/18, then 12/16. Peking Duck House. (money is tight)

I recommend that we reserve asap as reservations may be hard to come by during the season. I'd be glad to call the Duck House if that's what is decided. I may get them to waive the corkage.
DoubleD- I look forward to meeting you...either day would work for us- thanks!

mareff- I am totally open to the theme or non-theme for the wine...I may ship my wine ahead of time to one of you. I will also be sending/bringning a Champagne or two to kick things off.

differentdave- thanks for the offer of your time; greatly appreciated! We will be trying to fit in everything on our list as it is, but we're really looking forward to a dinner with you and others!

Gman, no kidding its tough. Just dont overextend.

MJ, I would gladly accept wine if you want it shipped, its up to you.
I may do that, we can speak offline for your shipping address once we decide on wines. Looking forward to this; love this time of year. Thanks!
Sounds good MJ. I'm looking forward to it as well.

For planning purposes, let's lock up Sunday, Dec 16th at 6 pm. I'm leaning towards Gentleman Farmer, but let me know if you and others prefer Peking Duck House. Gentleman Farmer is in the Bowery neighborhood.

Contact me at doubledela at yahoo dot com.
Square Meal can only accomodate up to 6 people. Unfortunately, they don't serve dinner on Sundays. It's a great place for two if you are going to be around that area (museums and the park are nearby). Six is tough because the place wants to turn the table for other diners if you are eating at 6 pm. It's a small place.

I think Gentleman Farmer is good for up to a group of 8. The seating is linear so you can't have a conversation with the person on the other end of the table.

DoubleD- that sounds great! I will be +1 of course. I will contact you offline as well.

Dec. 16 works for me but I wonder if anyone else might prefer starting at 7 pm? I'm working that day...
No - they treat him like a slave and make him work late. But if you need help up in Westchester, I'm sure he'd be available!

We need to talk. And so this may be one of the first WS OLs I ever attended if there's room. PDH sounds fine to me - uptown or downtown?

Only I'm not sourcing some damned wine. Has to be from inventory.
i have family holiday party on sunday (starts during the day). I will be attending and will probably be on time...... the catch is since I will be with family during the day chances of me not drinking is very slim. I normally try not to drink prior to offline but you may see a buzed David showing up at beginning of evening. I may be the one who falls alseep at the offline! Miss tbird (i have quite a few stories inlcuding one about a mother/daughter) looking forward to seeing both familiar and new faces!

It's all good David...looking forward to meeting you and others, should be a great evening! Cool
Hey guys, I just sent out an email to those who have replied affirmatively with some details. There will about 13-14 of us. Getting a decent pour from a 750ml may be a challenge. So if possible, bring a magnum, 2 bottles of the same wine or team up with someone who does.
Yeah, ditto! Mareff, your '78 Palmer and MJAlbers' '88 Krug were my WOTN.

The rest of the line up weren't shabby either, but those two were really, really excellent.

1988 Krug
2005 La Romanee Domaine Fontaine Gignard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Pru
1975 Cos d'Estournel
1978 Chateau Palmer
1982 Chateau La Lagune
1989 La Nerthe CdP Cuvee des Cadettes

What an enjoyable evening, great food, great wine, and even better, the company! Thanks to DoubleD for arranging, what a perfect venue it turned out to be; I would definitely return. Next time we're in town, we would love to hook up with everyone again. Special thanks to g-man for taking time friday afternoon to meet us for lunch and xharing the 98 d'yquem...very generous! First class peeps in NY, thanks everyone!
Finally posting notes on our El Grande tasting. Classically they become sparse towards the end. I would like to hear opinions from attendees who are experienced with older wines as I am not.
