JSMD,
The BV was far from a 59 point wine. I bought my bottle on auction from a supposedly immaculate cellar. I decanted the wine (for sedimental reasons) and even after 2 hours the wine in the decanter was alive! Lots of bright fruit, leather, herbs, earth notes ... reminded many of us of mature bordeaux.

I don't know what the history on JL's bottle was, but I was very pleased with mine.
Thx. again R2-D2 for hosting and congrats on your award / b-day (and a BIG congrats on the REALLY BIG news!). I guess everyone now knows how "old" I am . . .

My favs? It seems I kept pouring from Pride and Phelps (really convenient stading next to those wines). The '74 BV was drinking great, and there were quite a few excellent wines; I decided not to take any notes. Food was great as well.

Until the next time,
Blue Oval
Happy Birthday, R2D2!

Sorry I could not make the shindig. Sounds like a great time. However, I did pick up a 1974 Gevrey-Chambertin while in Paris. We'll have to open it in celebration the next time we get together. The shop owner said it is a fine and delicate Burg for about 20 minutes and then it fades out. If we have enough Mafia members attack the bottle upon uncorking, that should not be an issue. Big Grin

See you soon.

Cheers,

Otis
R2-Thanks again for hosting...sorry i had to bow out early but rock and roll can never die...it stretched into quite a long evening, Metro for Mission of Burma, than The Bottom Lounge for Brian Jonestown Massacre.

My faves of the night were the Karl Lawrence, Heitz and Pahlmeyer. I saw the 59 given the BV by WS and was concerned, they must have had a bad bottle, though fading and past peek it still showed some interesting nuances and flavors.
R2,

Thanks for having us over and thanks for allowing us to bring our daughter. We had a great time. Also, happy birthday and congratulations on your award and big announcement.

I would have to say that the Pahlmeyer was probably my WOTN. Beyond that, I do not think that I can rank the others as they were all excellent.

Thanks,
Rob

Hey Steve- Mission of Burma was crunching, they had a lot of good shift changes, yet they seemed to just miss taking it to the next level.

I know you are a Wilco fan, I have one extra first row balacony ticket available for Sunday 10/31 Halloween show at the Auditorium if you are interested (if you can pull of transportation)...

Scuba, I would love to go to that show but I can't make it happen for this Sunday. Thanks for the offer though.
